Submission deadline extended to midnight April 9th


Newton Has Talent is for MUSIC ACTS only. To be eligible, at least one member of the act must live, work or attend school in the city of Newton, MA and be at least 13 years of age on or before May 13th, 2017.  Entrants must not be, at time of entry or at time of winner selection, a party to any agreement with any studio, production company or recording company or any third party that might interfere with the entrant’s participation in the contest and/or acceptance of the prize awarded. Professionals are not eligible. Any performer in the top three (3) finalists of last year’s competition is not eligible to enter this year’s competition. Any party directly related to the Rotary Club of Newton or Newton Has Talent is not eligible to enter.
YOUTH DIVISION – All act members must be 13 to 19 years of age on or before Saturday, May 13, 2017. A solo youth performer may have an adult accompanist and still remain in the Youth Division.
ADULT DIVISION – Acts with at least one member who is 20 years of age or older on or before Saturday, May 13th, 2017.


Beginning Wednesday March 8th, 2017 through 12 o’clock midnight the night of Sunday April 9th, 2017 go to the 'Submit Your Act' tab, complete and submit the entry form, including the submission of a photo, posting a video of your act, biography, and the $25.00 entry fee, as described by the onscreen instructions. Incomplete entry forms or entry forms that have been tampered with will be disqualified. The video must be an unedited, straight run-through of the performance, with no overdubs or production enhancements. The video must be a YouTube® URL direct link, which was not uploaded prior to Wednesday, March 8st, 2017. 


●      Acts from each Division will be selected as semi-finalists by a panel of judges and announced on Friday, April 14, 2017 on this website. The public will then be able to cast their vote by clicking the ‘Like’ button on whichever video(s) they choose to help narrow the performance list down to the top ten (10) Finalists in each Division. Voting will end at midnight on Friday, April 28, 2017. The public vote will be weighted with additional votes from a second panel of select judges.
●      On Monday, May 1, 2017 Newton Has Talent will announce online the ten (10) Finalist Acts selected to perform live at the show on Saturday, May 13th.  Finalists will be notified by telephone and email.
●      Each of the finalists must agree to perform live at the Saturday, May  13, 2017 event at the Jewish Community Center (JCC) in Newton, MA at 7:30pm and attend a 4pm sound check. Each finalist will be given five (5) minutes to complete a performance on stage in the Auditorium. The panel of judges will select the Winner of each Division, at the JCC on Saturday, May 13th, 2017.
●      Failure of any finalist to appear and perform at this event will result in immediate disqualification. Judges reserve the right to select fewer or more finalists in each Division, or to combine Divisions if they determine, in their sole discretion, that entries received did not meet the minimum qualification standards based on the judging criteria specified herein.  Decisions of the judges are final. 


The winning act in each Division will receive a $1,000 Grand Prize, with another  $1,000 going to the Charity of the Winner’s choice.
If Divisions are combined (as described above) the first place winner will win $1000 plus $1000 for the charity of their choice, second place will win $750 plus $750 for the charity of their choice, and third place will win $250 plus $250 for the charity of their choice.
The winning acts will be notified in person at the Saturday, May 13, 2017 event.
A 1099 form will be filed in conjunction with this prize award. The prize will be dispensed to the declared winner upon receipt of an affidavit of eligibility and liability/promotion release and confirmation of legal identification. In the event of noncompliance with this requirement, the prize will be awarded to an alternate winner.


Any member of the public can vote by 'Liking' the YouTube video(s) of their choice. Voting using macro, robotic, script or other forms of automatic voting will be disqualified. Entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be returned. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, incomplete, or inaccurate entries.


Videos must not be defamatory, trade libelous, pornographic or obscene, and the use authorized herein will not give rise to any claims of infringement, invasion of privacy or publicity, or infringe on any rights or interests of any third party, or give rise to any claims for any payment whatsoever, including but not limited to claims for re-use fees or residuals. The Sponsor reserves the right in their sole discretion to disqualify any video that they believe contains obscene, offensive or inappropriate content or that otherwise does not comply with these Official Rules or that is not consistent with the spirit or theme of the contest.

Online entrants must provide a valid daytime phone number and a valid e-mail address. It is entrant's responsibility to update Sponsor of any change in contact information. Expenses not specifically included in prize description and all taxes are the sole responsibility of the winner.

All federal, state, provincial and local laws and regulations apply. Entrants agree to be bound by the terms of these Official Rules and by the decisions of Sponsor, which are final and binding on all matters pertaining to this Promotion. Winner will be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, a Liability Release, and where legally permissible, a Publicity Release at the event in order to secure the prize. Failure to comply with this deadline may result in forfeiture of the prize and selection of an alternate winner.

Sponsor is not responsible for any printing, typographical, mechanical or other error in the printing of the offer, administration of the Promotion or in the announcement of the prize.


By entering the Contest, the entrant hereby: (a) irrevocably and unconditionally releases and forever discharges the Sponsor, its directors, officers, owners, partners, employees, agents, representatives, successors and assigns (collectively, the "Released Parties") from any and all liability whatsoever for any loss, harm, damages, cost or expense arising out of the entrant's participation in this Contest, or the acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of any prize, including without limitation, costs, injuries, losses related to personal injuries, death, damage to, loss or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation, or portrayal in a false light, or from any and all claims of third parties, and waives any and all causes of action, related to any injuries, loss or damage of any kind to any person or persons (including, without limitation, death or personal injuries, property damage, copyright infringement, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light, whether intentional or unintentional) resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, use and misuse of, and inability to use, any prize or any part of any prize or otherwise related to the entrant's participation in the Contest; and (b) grants to the Sponsor the unrestricted right to use and publish without any further compensation the name, photograph, portrait, likeness, audio-video recording, interview, voice and any website dissemination or broadcast thereof of that entrant for the purposes of advertising and promoting the Contest, the Sponsor, and for awarding and publishing the prize.


Sponsor is not responsible for electronic transmission errors resulting in omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operations or transmission, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alterations of entry materials, or for technical, network, telephone equipment, electronic, computer, hardware or software malfunctions or limitations of any kind, or inaccurate transmissions of or failure to receive entry information by Sponsor or presenter on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website or any combination thereof. If for any reason the Internet portion of the program is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Promotion, Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Promotion.

Sponsor reserves the right to select finalists from eligible entries received as of the termination date. Sponsor further reserves the right to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process. Sponsor may prohibit an entrant from participating in a Promotion if it determines that said entrant is attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Promotion by cheating, hacking, deception or other unfair playing practices or intending to abuse, threaten or harass other entrants. Caution: Any attempt by a participant to deliberately damage any website or undermine the legitimate operation of the Promotion is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such participant to the fullest extent of the law.


Except where prohibited, each entrant agrees that: (1) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest or any prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by state or federal courts situated in Newton, MA, (2) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, but in no event attorneys' fees; and (3) no punitive, incidental, special, consequential or other damages, including without limitation lost profits may be awarded (collectively, "Special Damages"), and (4) entrant hereby waives all rights to claim Special Damages and all rights to have such damages multiplied or increased. Massachusetts State law, without reference to Massachusetts’s choice of law rules, governs the Contest and all aspects related thereto.
